Kognito prepares students, faculty, and staff to lead real-life conversations with others in distress, helping them connect with resources they need.

People in distress often turn to those they know rather than seeking professional help. Kognito helps you develop skills for talking with friends, family, peers, colleagues, any anyone who may be thinking about suicide.

What is Kognito?

Kognito is an online, interactive role-play simulation program for students, faculty, and staff that builds awareness, knowledge and skills about mental health and suicide prevention.

How Long Does It Take to Complete?

About 45 minutes. Kognito is self-guided—total time it takes to complete depends on how much you explore the program.

Why Is It Important?

The University of Iowa is committed to providing compassionate psychological services, outreach, and training to foster mental health, nurture student success, and build a safe and welcoming campus community. It is important for students, faculty, and staff to learn about early recognition, intervention, and referrals.
